Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specific to injury prevention and rehabilitation. The goal of sports therapy is to help the athlete get back to optimum levels their sport's specific fitness. Miller Sports and Family Chiropractic works in collaboration with athletes (and their trainers/specialists) as an active member of their healthcare team to help design a plan to help optimize workouts and prevent injury, as well as addressing and healing injury after it occurs.

More than 30 million children participate in organized sports in the United States. And it is becoming more and more common that they are suffering sports-related, non-fatal injuries. More often than not, families will turn towards traditional medicine to treat fractures, dislocations, lacerations, and damaged tendons and ligaments. And while that helps treat the issue at hand, many athletes leave the hospital with as much musculoskeletal stress as they had prior to care.

Because Recovery is Just
as Important as Training

Athletes know how important it is to exercise and train to help increase their optimal performance and improve the skills they need to succeed. However, rest and recovery are just as important to an exercise program. This is because rest gives the body time to repair and strengthen itself in between workouts, practices, and games. When athletes are sleep deprived and/or overworked, they can risk losing endurance and unbalanced hormone levels. Not to mention that cognitive function decreases as well, meaning they need extra focus to keep their head in the game. Chiropractic care is the best way to promote recovery and release built-up tensions and stress to help you perform to your optimal potential.

Dr. Miller is a certified Kinesio Taping practitioner, meaning he knows how to apply KT tape with the precision and knowledge to help the athlete achieve desired relief, support, and healing. Dr. Murdock has her undergrad in Athletic Training and has learned how to advise athletes on avoiding injury, and how to assess and treat sports-related injuries when they do happen. Most importantly, if our chiropractors feel that they can no longer benefit the patient, we will refer them to a provider who can.

What's an Appointment Like?

During a sports injury/therapy appointment, the patient comes in to have a full physical evaluation. Afterward, the doctor would explain all aspects of the injury and current condition. In collaboration with the athlete, they would discuss an individualized treatment plan to make sure the athlete not only returns to playing condition but also to help prevent injuries in the future. The team at Miller Sports and Family Chiropractic will utilize the latest and greatest therapies/treatments such as:

  • Instrument-assisted soft tissue massage
  • Manual soft tissue massage
  • Laser therapy
  • Custom orthotics
  • FAKTR-PM
  • Kinesio Taping
